STEM Fair

This month Westwood Science hosted its first-ever STEM Fair! Westwood students, Larry Tseng (‘19), Daniel Xu (‘20) with the Robotics Team developed the idea for the event. Showing creativity and initiative, these students brought the idea to the administration and took on the planning and implementation of STEM Fair!

STEM Fair took place during lunch time for Westwood students to learn more about STEM offerings both as extracurriculars and as clubs. STEM Fair continued at night during parent-teacher conferences so that parents had the opportunity to learn firsthand from the students involved in these classes and clubs.

Robotics club demonstrated the robot they built for last year’s competition and focused on outreach to the community. Last year, Robotics competed at Bridgewater Regional HS and Bryant University. In the spring of 2017, the team advanced to the New England District Championship and was invited to compete internationally.

Marine Biology Club showed off several of the specimens they investigate. Students and parents were invited to explore comparative biology of these unique and interesting organisms.

Science Team was all thumbs up while highlighting some of the many successes they’ve celebrated in the past year.

Anatomy and Physiology challenged students and parents to assemble a model of a disarticulated skeleton. These students also highlighted the use of Augmented Reality software in helping to explore systems within the body.

Congratulations to the student organizers of STEM Fair and thank you to all the student volunteers who were able to share their passions for science with our community!
